Design duo Storm Thorgerson Aubrey Powell better known by their collective name Hipgnosis are renowned in the music world for creating iconic cover art for rock and roll greats. From Pink Floyd to Paul McCartney, Hipgnosis have been behind some of the most well know and well loved album artworks, shaping the aesthetic of the music industry since the late 1960s. This new series of limited editions brings the images back to life as archival inkjet prints, each one in beautiful, never before seen, clarity. ‘Silk Torpedo Pretty Things’ is a reprint of the 1974 Pretty Things album of the same name. Inspired by WW2 pin up paintings, the image depicts a 1950s style poster girl, sat atop a torpedo as it whooshes past a vintage motor boat. There’s a certain glamour and frivolity to the image, and an aesthetic power that transcends its musical context. A must have for the Pretty Things fan, the retro music collector, and anyone with a keen eye for the iconic.
